Molecular Genetics, Breeding and Aquaculture Development Studies Specialized To Prawns

Aquaculture and fisheries are the importance sectors in Malaysia. However, there is some conflicts between these industry and environmental issue. During her master’s degree, she had studied the aquaculture activities impact to the wild populations of the prawns. Through genetically, she had also studied the bacteria diversity associated with wild prawns that might has benefit and harm to the prawns and indirectly to humans as consumer. Outcomes from this study shown that, fish and prawns aquaculture through the sampling area does not affect the bacteria diversity associated with wild prawns’ populations. Bacteria that found were living naturally with the prawns.

With Arbaah, Our Researcher passionate to enhance Australian Redclaw crayfish, Cherax quadricarinatus production through selective breeding as importance to improve reproductive capacity and other economically importance characteristics. As a local researcher, we determines to boost aquaculture industry in Malaysia through smart farming technique with less impact to environment.

“As a key part of Arbaah business model we have been developing potential aquaculture system for redclaw which requires low protien diet and it an excellent aquaculture..”

Siti Zuliana Ahmad is a Researcher in Research and Development Department at Arbaah. Graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia in Master Science of Biotechnology, her area of interest is in fisheries, aquaculture, and food science. She has a keen interest in the molecular genetics, breeding and aquaculture development studies specialized to prawns.
